It is difficult to explain some results in terms of standard theory. Evolutionary explanations require adjusting for presumed annealing (slow fading under the influence of heat) of the tracks, and still dates are hard to obtain blinded. In situations such as the ocean floor where annealing should not be a problem, dates are often much lower than required by the evolutionary timescale.
