Mature adult Edmontosaurus annectens had well in excess of 100 vertebrae. The vertebrae of the tail (caudal) were less complex than those of other regions of the spine. Depending upon the age of the animal, 70 or more vertebrae were in the tail. The proximal caudal vertebrae were topped by large neural spines, to which the muscles and tendons of the tail were affixed.
